The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone traveling near Battershaw Woods after sunset to remain with a group, carry a working flashlight, and avoid leaving marked paths. Officials are also requesting the public's help in documenting suspicious vehicles, strange lights, unusual sounds, or other unexplained activity reported near the trail.
Several residents reported pale lights moving between the trees late Tuesday night. Deputies found no vehicles or equipment in the area and are asking anyone with photographs or video to come forward.
A dark-colored vehicle was reportedly seen parked near the old access road on multiple evenings. Authorities are asking witnesses to record the time, location, and license plate only if it can be done safely.
Officials recommend that anyone visiting the area travel with at least one other person, keep phones charged, and tell someone where they are going before entering the trail.
Deputies searched the eastern edge of the woods after callers reported shouting and metal scraping sounds. No injured persons were located, but fresh tracks were found near the creek bed.
Newly recovered images show a shadowy figure near the old crossing shortly after midnight. Investigators have not determined whether the figure was a person, animal, or something else.
The Sheriff's Office is compiling a list of trained volunteers who may be contacted during future searches. Residents are asked not to conduct independent searches without notifying authorities.
